ABOVE GROUND SPECIFICATION

Above ground soil, waste and rainwater pipework

(For a full specification guide please see our Submittal Document)

a) Cast iron pipes and fittings manufactured by Hargreaves Foundry Drainage Ltd, Water Lane, South Parade, Halifax, West Yorkshire HX3 9HG.

b) Soil, waste and rainwater pipework in nominal diameters 50mm to 200mm shall be installed using cast iron socketless pipes and fittings conforming to product standard BS EN 877:1999 with BSI Kitemark and BBA certificates.

c) The system shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and BS EN 12056 code of practice plus relevant Building Regulations.

d) Soil, waste and rainwater pipework will have a fire rating A2 s1 d0 as tested according to BS EN 13501-1:2007

e) The pipework system shall have been independently tested to BS EN 14366:2004 (measurement of noise in waste water installations) by a certified laboratory.

Jointing Pipework

Standard Couplings – Ductile Iron

a) Couplings 50mm to 150mm diameter capable of withstanding up to 5 bar (accidental static water pressure) when suitably restrained by support brackets. Couplings 200mm diameter capable of withstanding up to 3 bar. All couplings fitted with electrical continuity grub screws to ensure compliance with IEE regulations.

Standard Couplings (alternative) – Stainless Steel

b) Couplings 50mm to 150mm diameter capable of withstanding up to 5 bar (accidental static water pressure) when suitably restrained by support brackets. Couplings 200mm diameter capable of withstanding up to 3 bar. All couplings designed to provide electrical continuity when fully tightened.

High Pressure Couplings

c) Stainless steel couplings capable of withstanding up to 10 bar (accidental static water pressure) with no necessity for restraining brackets.

Fixing Pipework

d) Pipework shall be installed true to line and following manufacturer’s recommended method. Halifax support brackets such as ductile iron series HS067 or zinc plated HS061, HS063 & HS064 shall be used. Alternatives may be used as standard guidelines suggested by manufacturer.

e) Brackets to be fixed at maximum 2m centres for horizontal installations within 500mm of coupling joints. Additional brackets required at branches and changes of direction.

f) For vertical pipework a load bearing support should be provided on every floor. Vertical pipes installed in buildings of 5 or more floors plus basement must be provided with a downpipe support fitting at the ground floor level and every subsequent fifth floor.

Fittings

g) On vertical soil pipework 88deg branches shall be radius curve branches to comply with BS EN 12056-2.

h) Small diameter plastic or copper waste pipes to be connected to the main soil pipework using BSP threaded boss pipes or compression boss pipes or long tail manifold connectors with push fit grommets.

Cutting

i) When cutting pipes on site, care must be taken to cut clean and square with burrs removed. It is not normally necessary to re-coat the cut ends but where there may be aggressive effluent such as strong alkaline or acid solutions passing through the system, it is recommended that a suitable touch-up paint is applied.

Coating

j) Pipes shall be externally coated with a 2-pack epoxy paint, red in colour, with a minimum dry thickness of 40µ; internally coated with a 2-pack epoxy ochre yellow coating with an average dry thickness of 130µ.
